Pre- and post-congress tours

All pre- and post-congress tours require an initial expression of interest by 1 February 2012. These pre- and post-congress tours have been organised by IFHE members. Your tour contact can give you an approximate price however final packages and prices will be determined by the level of interest.

Congress tours (overseas)

International participants will have exclusive access to unique pre-congress tours on route organised for IFHE members and tailored to meet their diverse interests. These stopover options allow you to take in the delights of either Hong Kong (and China) or Singapore. These tour options are amazing so participants are encouraged to book early as there will be limited places available.

Congress tours (Australia)

For many participants a visit to Australia is the dream of a lifetime and no visit to Australia is complete without spending at least a few days in Sydney, arguably one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Synonymous with Far North Queensland is the Great Barrier Reef where the rainforest meets the sea. Whatever you choose, we recommend you value-add to your congress experience with a pre- or post-Congress tour.


Hong Kong and China

Monday 9 July – Friday 13 July (5 days, 4 nights)

Get a taste of Hong Kong and China’s Guangdong province on the Pearl River Delta. Visit Repulse Bay, Stanley, Sheung Wan wet market, Western dried seafood market and Tung Choi Street market. Ride the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to see the giant Tian Tan Buddha and have a vegetarian banquet at Po Lin Monastery. Catch the ferry to Guangdong, meet with home economists at the Zhuhai Campus of the Beijing Normal University and lunch at Mrs Wong’s private kitchens. Visit the Shunde silk factory, a garment factory and a traditional cake factory, lunch on traditional Zhongshan-style pigeon and shop in the historic walking precinct of Zhongshan’s Shiqi district. Return to Hong Kong and see the stunning views from the Peak before catching your flight to Melbourne.

Singapore – a collage of cuisines

Monday 9 July – Friday 13 July (5 days, 4 nights)

Situated at the end of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore is now home to Chinese, Indian, and Eurasian communities as well as Malay people. What better way to experience this rich diversity of culture than through cooking and food? Let local chefs Jimmy Chok and Eric Low induct you into the secrets of their specialty cuisines at a series of cooking workshops. Explore Singapore on organised tours and trips to the Raffles Museum, Singapore Zoo Night Safari and the Mustafa Centre. Take advantage of local knowledge to dine on the best Chinese, Malay, Peranakan and Indian food and sample the nightlife at Clarke Quay. Visit the Classroom of the Future at the National Institute of Education, and discover Singapore’s many other treasures in the ample free time scheduled.

Sydney - the harbour city

Sunday 22 July – Thursday 26 July (5 days, 4 nights)

Located on one of the most beautiful harbours in the world, Sydney is Australia’s largest and oldest city. Discover The Rocks, the historic neighbourhood of the early convicts where sandstone buildings have been converted into restaurants, shops and museums. Enjoy shopping in the magnificent Queen Victoria Building and the Strand Arcade. Visit Sydney’s world class fish market, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Travel the harbour by ferry and take advantage of Circular Quay dining at its best with fresh seafood and harbour views. Visit the Sydney Opera House, a masterpiece of modern architecture and a world-class performing arts centre. Meet Australian native animals at Taronga Zoo overlooking the harbour. Enjoy the views from the observation deck at Sydney Tower. Tropical North Queensland – where the rainforest meets the sea

Sunday 22 July – Friday 27 July (6 days, 5 nights)

Leave Melbourne for Cairns, an international airport and gateway to Tropical North Queensland. Journey through ever-changing tropical landscape, white sandy palm-fringed beaches, waving canefields and jungle-clad misty mountains. Stay in the tropical paradise of Port Douglas and spend the following days visiting the Daintree World Heritage and Cape Tribulation area, the world’s oldest living tropical rainforest. Experience the Great Barrier Reef, a working sugar cane farm and sugar mill, famous Mossman Gorge, the Atherton Tableland with a coffee plantation and tropical fruit farms then take the Skyrail from Kuranda to Cairns. Have dinner in the rainforest and enjoy a diverse array of flora and fauna. Encounter rare and endangered species of bird and wildlife, butterflies and prehistoric crocodile. Depart from Cairns direct to Asia depending on your airline or fly to Brisbane to connect with your overseas flight (check if your airline flies out of Cairns).
